Picture books are always a great read for little ones. They offer plenty of beautiful illustrations to look at while the adult does the reading. It is relaxing and always one of my favorite activities to do with my girls. Bear and Duck written and illustrated by Katy Hudson is an adorable story about friendship and loving who you really are.
Bear is sick and tired of being a bear.
Who wants to sleep all winter?
His fur feels so hot in the summer.
And the bees . . . there are just too many angry bees!Bear is done being a bear.
But when he sees a line of happy yellow ducks, he has a thought.
What if he could be a duck?
With a few lessons from Duck, Bear learns that being a duck is fun. But as it turns out, Bear realizes he makes a really good bear . . . and he makes a really good friend along the way.
The story takes us on a journey through Bear’s thoughts on why he dislikes being a bear. When a duck goes by he decides that being a duck looks much better than being a bear. He jumps in line and starts quacking. Mama duck decides to help him out and teach him how to be a duck. The problem is Bear can’t really do a lot of things ducks do. Instead he is actually pretty great at being a bear. The beauty is that in the end he has found himself a great friend and they like each other for who they are.
Katy Hudson grew up in Middlesbrough, England and started her illustration career coloring on walls as a small child. Her parents switched her over to pencil and paper but she seems to have found the perfect medium for her picture book debut. She is a freelance illustrator based in Greenwich, London and you can visit her website to learn more about her.
This is a delightful picture book and is a great addition to summer reading.
