Nine years ago my husband and I were newlyweds while I was working my first post-college job while also working on my masters degree part time and my husband was in law school. We were young but at the time we felt like full grown adults. We had a new townhouse and were living all on our own. We thought we would take the next step and bought a fish tank and kept some simple fresh water fish. One day while browsing the fish isle at PetSmart my husband had a bright idea that he wanted a large dog. I had never had a dog before so I was completely against the idea. Somehow he talked me into the idea of a pet and a few weeks later we adopted Princess Peach who at the time was 23 pup pounds. Here she is now at 9 years old and 70 pounds. She is truly a member of the family.
Pethood is much like parenthood except you are adopting a pet. It is still a HUGE responsibility and there are ups and downs along the way. Right after we adopted our pooch we immediately went to PetSmart to buy every single thing our new baby needed and everything we wanted too. I was so overwhelmed because I had no idea dogs could have so much fun stuff! There are clothes, toys, dishes, so many different food choices, collars and so much more. We even signed her up for a PetSmart training class which we so happily called puppy kindergarten. The class was definitely one of the best things we could have done as she has always been really well behaved.
Sure she was a cute and adorable puppy but we were instantly thrown into a life of pethood. She had some digestive issues right away so there were vet visits, then learning about monthly flea and tick protection and then there was the training and house breaking. Nothing quite like cleaning a giant pile of poo off the carpet. Exactly like with parenthood it has all been worth it. The hard work has resulted in a very loyal and loving dog. She absolutely loves to be petted by anyone that visits. Pethood helped us grow our little family.

Today she is our family’s protector.
No mail man, UPS driver, squirrel or ice cream truck is safe. She barks
to let us know they are near. She is still well behaved and super
friendly and comes to us on command but she likes to let her deep bark
be heard when a bird gets to close to the house. Yes, we even let her
stand on the furniture and she even sleeps in our bed.?
We also have a cat and more fish so we are definitely a pet loving family. She really loves when we bring her on special shopping trips to Petsmart and I love that I can browse the store while bringing my beloved pet with me. Our journey into #PetParenthood has been a lot of fun and PetSmart has been there every step of the way.
