Friends in living greener with DISNEY GO GREEN: A Family Guide To A Sustainable Lifestyle. The book explains the importance of
sustainability in a simple, understandable way for kids to enjoy. It includes interesting
facts, tips and has a lot of fun activities for children to try. With Earth Day approaching on April 22nd this is a great book for family activities.
Go Green is a new brand of Disney books, encouraging families to lead a sustainable lifestyle. It is however not only a line of books but an opportunity for families to spend time together. It is an all around guide for families to take steps towards transforming their lives to live a healthier, greener, and a more sustainable lifestyle.
This first Go Green book is for everyone whether they are new to the concept of sustainability or someone who’s lifestyle is green. The books three main focal points are; explaining sustainability in a simple and fun way, putting the concept into perspective for children and families and to show easy and fun steps to take in the green direction. All through the book are tips and fun facts connected to sustainability and the reader will find that not all is lost and a few easy steps will take the family in a new direction.
The book starts right at the beginning with explaining why you should be “green.” This is definitely a book kids will need to read together with their parents as it is not an easy reader. The purpose of the activities in the book is to show children how to use everyday items found in nature or around the house and re-purpose them into something else. There are also recipes for using locally grown ingredients and ideas for becoming a “giving” kind of person. My oldest is really into being green right now so she is enjoying learning more about it and what things she can try next.
Some suggestions for included projects:
- Turn an orange juice carton into a bird feeder
- Use different tube-shaped materials to make a marble run
- Notch old paper towel and toilet paper rolls to make Lincoln log structures
Working as a family you can teach your children that helping the environment starts at home and it can be as simple as making a few changes to your everyday routine. All of these activities help reduce our ecological footprint and impact on the planet. I am constantly trying to find ways for my family to live a greener lifestyle so this book was a perfect way for us to come up with new ideas and all with the help from Mickey, who is like a family friend. I can’t wait to see what books come up next in the series. We are certainly hooked on a greener life and we like learning new things on our sustainable journey.
