I received a sample for this review/feature. Opinions expressed are my own.
When I was pregnant with my son, the very first thing I thought about was the baby monitor. I was so scared that I would fall asleep at night and not hear him cry so I knew I needed the best monitor to give me peace of mind that it would alert me whenever he needed me. At the time, I got a really great monitor with what seemed like high quality video and sound, but it paled in comparison to the newest baby monitor from D-Link, the Wi-Fi Baby Camera Pan & Tilt HD Cloud Camera.
The D-Link DCS-855L features remote pan and tilt technology, which allows parents to adjust their view as well as the viewing angle to see the entire nursery all from their phone or tablet. With 720p HD video quality and night vision you get crisp clear images both day and night. There’s sound and motion detectors to tell you if your baby is crying, in addition to a temperature sensor to let you know if the room is too hot or cold. There’s even a two-way speaker so you can talk to your child or sooth your baby right from your phone.
To say the video quality is amazing would be a serious understatement. While we normally look at the monitor at night (which makes the image black and white), I was amazed by how clear the video image was during the day.
The nighttime image is also incredibly crisp. I can see exactly what he’s doing and I get notifications for when he makes noise and moves around. I also like knowing what the temperature in his room is. When he was a baby, I was very particular about the room temperature and even now I like knowing if I need to adjust the temperature to make him more comfortable. With this monitor, I can set an alert that tells me if the temperature is out of the range I set.
The layout on the monitor screen is great and easy to use as well. There’s the option to use the two-way speaker, you can take pictures from the monitor, play 5 pre-recorded lullabies, and even turn the sound or image off. There are also small alerts at the bottom to let you know if your child has cried or moved around a lot.
Setting up the monitor was incredibly easy. I downloaded the app (which works for both Apple and Android products) and connected my phone to the camera’s wi-fi. Then I connected the camera to my own wi-fi and it was ready to go. I was worried it was going to be difficult to set up through my phone, but I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to do it myself and didn’t even have to consult the instruction manual.
You have the ability to change the settings on all of the features. You can set how sensitive the monitor is to both movement and sound, change the image resolution, and even turn certain aspects on and off. Even the actual monitor itself is customizable with white, blue, and pink rings and speakers to match your nursery decor.
It has never been easier to monitor your baby. Even if you’re not at home, you can still peak in on your baby with the monitor. We do use babysitters every so often, so it’s a great bonus feature that I can check the monitor while out and see that everything is ok.
The D-Link DCS-855L has everything and more you could ever want from a baby monitor. From all of the amazing features to the excellent quality of video and sound, this is truly the best monitor out there.
