I love books. If someone asks me my favorite thing to do or my hobby I usually list books and reading first. The amount of quality picture books that are available to children today always kind of blows my mind. I don’t have vivid memories of reading picture books as a kid but I have certainly made up for it with my children by reading a ridiculous number of books to them. My 6 year old is just now starting to get into chapter books but both still enjoy picture books best. I read a story and they get to follow along with a book full of amazing illustrations. These 2 from HarperCollins Children’s Books are more great books that get my kids excited.
Sophie loves to dress up and play with her dolls, but she wishes she had a friend to join her. Then one day Sophie meets Goose. Honk! The two become fast friends. But when it’s time for Goose to fly away, can Sophie find a way for him to stay?
Goose written and illustrated by Laura Well is listed for ages 4-8 but I think this one is easily good for babies and toddlers through preschoolers. The best part is the bold and beautiful illustrations that go along with the story. The bright colorful pages certainly make them more enjoyable to look at while I read the story of a very unlikely friendship that warms the heart.
Winnie and her dog, Waldorf, do everything together, from dressing up to eating meals together, but sometimes Waldorf misbehaves. He just can’t help himself! When Winnie’s older sister, Sara, gets furious at Waldorf for breaking her violin, Winnie and Waldorf must be on their best behavior?it would be the worst thing ever if Waldorf were replaced by a cat!
In Winnie & Waldorf by debut author-illustrator Kati Hites a little girl by the name Winnie is best friends with her dog Waldorf. They have the best time together but then Waldorf gets in trouble for breaking a violin in big sister Sara’s room. Through a fun story and even better illustrations both my 3 and 6 year old love this story. We have our own dog that tends to get in trouble from time to time so both of them can relate to Winnie. This is an adorable book that never gets old.
I know some of you are already tired of homework from school but remember that reading can be fun and super important for little ones. Finding the right books that are enjoyable for kids and for the adults reading them is sometimes the hardest part. These two are clear winners for both girls and for me. There is just something special about a new book to read together!
