Even though my son is only 3, he certainly knows his way around an iPad and iPhone. While he likes to play games, he really loves watching videos on the devices. Using YouTube is the way we’ve brought up videos for him in the past, but I have to be vigilant to make sure he doesn’t navigate out of the video to something potentially non-kid friendly, not to mention the ads aren’t always age appropriate either. Now with Kideos, he can safely watch the top YouTube videos for kids without having to watch ads.
Kideos has a sidebar full of your child’s favorite videos. My son really loved the trucks category and I liked that they had a variety of different popular shows, videos specifically geared towards babies and toddlers, and even kid-friendly music videos.
Once you selected something from the featured list, you or your child can swipe the screen to see all of the videos within that category. Peppa Pig and Paw Patrol are some of my son’s favorites so we spent a bit of time checking out those videos.
If you’re looking for a specific video, there’s a search option. My son is very into pandas lately, so I searched for a panda video for him to watch.
The Featured Video category showcases some of the most popular videos to watch.
I like that there’s a parental control section that has you enter a code first and then you can select the appropriate age range for the videos that come up as well as being able to limit the watch time. These are excellent features to have, especially for the younger kids.
The videos load quickly and my son found it very easy to navigate. If he wants a specific video, I have to type it in the search for him, but otherwise, getting around in the video categories is so simple. I absolutely love that I don’t have to be scared he’s going to stumble upon something for adults. This makes for easy trips in the car now because I know he can watch the videos he loves without needing my help. This is a must-have app for all parents with young children that use their mobile devices!
Kideos is free to download and is available for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch in iTunes.
