With having a 3 and 6 year old one of my many overprotective worries is their learning and education. It is just so important, especially these early years. Big Sis is in kindergarten and we work on homework together but I want to go above and beyond that. I am just not the homeschool mom type nor will I ever be. That is why I am so thankful for ABCmouse.com which is is an educational website for young children that provides online
learning activities for 2-6 year olds at preschool through
kindergarten levels.
You pay a monthly subscription fee and you get endless educational activities that are actually fun. You can add several users and put them at individual levels. I have my account set up for both my 3 and 6 year old. That way when they are working it will be at the skill level that is appropriate for them.
I sit with Lil Sis when she is working on her iPad using the ABCmouse app. We normally stick to the Learning Path which breaks up lessons into parts for her to do that get progressively harder as she completes levels. She earns tickets for each activity which she can use to get digital pets and stuff for her pets and avatar. These tickets and “purchases” are a huge hit with my girls. They love to see how many tickets they will get for each activity.
You can see that many activities have settings so that you can change up the difficulty level. If she finishes something super quick we go back and do it on a harder setting.
Of course you don’t have to follow the learning path and can instead pick out activities that you want your kids to do or ones they want to do. Many are books, songs, painting, games or learning about different animals. The app speaks to you so the children understand what to do.
Another feature of ABC Mouse that I really like is being able to track each of my
children’s progress from my parent login. This lets me know what areas I need to help them out with most and which areas they excel at. The parent login also lets me manage all the settings from what my kids are and are not allowed to do in their user account as well as setting time limits and even creating my own lessons using their materials.
They even have a online store so that you can purchase educational materials like books, DVDs, CDs, backpacks, puzzle sets, carpet, gift subscriptions and more. These little hardback books are so nice. The quality of the books themselves is great as well as the beautiful illustrations and stories. My 6 year old got right to reading The Cat and the Rat from the beginning reader series as it was full of sight words she has been working on all school year.
The Aesop’s Fables Series have more
words and sentences for each page so they are harder to read on her own
but that only makes it so she has more to learn. The Aesop’s Fables are
great books to read to Lil Sis as they are just great stories and she
always enjoys me reading them to her. Each of these books also feature a glossary with child-friendly definitions to help children expand their vocabulary.
Overall ABCmouse helps my girls with
their learning in ways I just can’t. The website and app are just
amazing giving them so many different activities to choose from and tons
of printables so that they can do stuff hands on as well. I love how
technology can be used to help with little learners and both my girls
enjoy every minute when they are on ABCmouse (which is why I also input time limits). ABCmouse actually makes learning fun!
