The legend of the snipe has been a ritual in the backwoods for years. According to Education Outdoors after the Biela comet crashing in 1885, it was said the explosion into nature caused a morphing of a Snipe (bird) and a Pine Martin (weasel). From this time on it has been said that at night with a flash light you can catch a glimpse of a Snipe. On a recent Education Outdoors nature hike, the team discovered two of these so-called snipes and named them Smartin and Biela…
This fun game starts with both snipes and a base. Turn on the snipes and hide them. You can either have it has a two player game and each person hides the other snipe or it can be done in teams. My husband and I hid them for our two girls to find. The red one for my younger daughter and the green one, hid more cleverly, for my older daughter. The goal is to find your snipe first and put it on the base. After several minutes if they are not found they begin to chirp. The sound becomes closer together the longer it takes to find them. Eventually their eyes start to glow red as well.
Honestly this game is AMAZING. I could
see this being played at slumber parties or girl scout sleepovers. My
girls want to play it over and over again. I have just as much fun hiding them as my girls do finding them. We played it both indoors and outdoors so it is a versatile game. The reason it is so great is because it starts to chirp. That adds to the excitement for kids trying to find where the sound came from. This game definitely gets kids up and moving as they try and find the legendary snipe.
