A child is a blessing, one of life’s greatest gifts that most women vow to nurture, protect and love from the very moment that they realize they are pregnant. Their baby grows inside of their womb and from that moment, for all of eternity, they are one.
From my own personal experience, I had absolutely no clue what love really was until that precious moment when the nurse laid my first born son on my chest and I looked into his smiling face. In that moment, that one very instant, my heart filled with love; a love so unimaginable and strong that I’d never felt anything like it before. It was a mother’s love for her child and the love I had felt for others before could never compare. That was my first experience with unconditional love and a moment in time that 15 years since his birth has not been able to erase from my mind.
I couldn’t imagine never experiencing that feeling, but every day, hundreds of mothers across the globe fight battles many of us don’t even know exist. Women in developing countries don’t easily have easy access to medical care like we do. Even without insurance, our government ensures that babies can still be born and live long, healthy lives. The parents may get stuck with a bill they may never be able to pay, but they still have that precious life that they created, as well as their own.
But every year, nearly 300,000 women in developing countries die from complications to pregnancy and childbirth. That’s 800 women each day that die from causes that can be prevented! It makes me angry, it makes me sick and it breaks my heart.
There is an organization – Kangu – and they have a big dream, a selfless dream. Their dream is for every woman in the world to have the chance of giving birth safely, resulting in the new life of their child, while still holding onto their own. It’s not an unrealistic dream, but it’s a dream that they cannot chase on their own. They need our help through their crowdfunding platform. Together, we can make a difference and help to provide quality healthcare so that mothers can safely give birth to the precious lives that they create.
The wonderful thing about the way that Kangu is set up, is that each mother has a profile and you can choose which person you help to safely give birth. Right in their profile, you will read their story, see what percentage of their expenses have been funded and an actual dollar amount needed to reach their goal. Donations start at just $10 and every single penny counts! After the birth of the child, you’ll get an emailed update from Kangu medical partners.
To date, 562 babies have been born safely thanks to the efforts of donors and the wonderful team at Kangu. Almost 1400 people helped to make these lives possible and what a wonderful gift to give; the glorious gift of life!
