I love being able to read on my iPad, especially when it’s something fun like a comic. The new app, Puss-in-Boots, is the first of it’s kind that combines animation with a comic. My son and I read this together and it was fun to see what happened next as we turned the pages.
In Puss-in-Boots, an old farmer is dying and splits up his patrimony between his three sons. The oldest son gets the mill, the second son gets the donkey, and the third son gets a cat. While it may seem like the youngest son got the short end of the stick, this cat is no ordinary cat at all. He is a talking cat and spends many days telling the King all about his “master” and giving gifts from him. When the King finally meets the young man, he clearly thinks he is royalty.
The young man and Puss-in-Boots have quite the adventure together from escaping an ogre, rescuing a princess, and he may even end up securing his own castle as well.
As you read the story, animated script pops up and the characters do things as well. It’s an engaging story that becomes even more fun as you turn each page. The graphics on this were very clear and bright – making it engaging for my child and he thought the animated expressions were hilarious. The font in the text bubbles was easy to read as well and I really liked that I had the ability to bookmark my place. This was a story I loved as a kid and now it’s one I can share with my son in a whole new way.
Puss-n-Boots is available for purchase in iTunes and is for iPads running version iOS 4.0 or later.
