Our pups are very special to us and are a huge part of our family. We absolutely adore them and love each of them to pieces. And as you can see, they love each other quite deeply as well. I cherish the rare occasion that I’m able to capture a cuddle moment on camera because I swear, every time I bust out that camera, they move!
They may look all sweet and innocent, but I assure you, that is not always the case. Oh no, these boys have been quite ornery at times!
Max was a very good puppy and had very little accidents. This was partly due to his well behaved nature, but to our diligence in taking him out often, though it was the dead of winter when he came to join our family. That helped to teach him though and now if he has to go, he just whines at the door; or clobbers you until you figure out what it is he wants.
Now Gunner on the other hand, he is a sweet boy and I love him to pieces – don’t get me wrong. But he was horrible as a puppy. He was so bad in fact, that I often just couldn’t handle him and felt like I was at my wits end.
He would chew on anything and everything in site – including my favorite pair of strappy sandals. He once ate the entire tongue and surrounding area of a pair of my hubby’s shoes, the day he got them! That was a quick $85 down the drain. And the accidents! My, oh my was that boy ever hard to potty train. Luckily we had hard surfaces throughout the house and he usually went by the back door, so clean up wasn’t as bad as if we’d had carpeting. I do recall a time that he chewed up the bottom plastic tray to the kennel as well!
But over time, he did outgrow that horrible stage and we couldn’t love him more. I’ve heard many people say that their yellow lab was similar as a puppy, so perhaps it’s sort of a thing with that breed. All three dogs are well behaved for the most part now and the worst we see {er.. smell} around here for the most part is the disgusting flatulence that only a dog can let out. It straight up smells like you stepped in a big pile of you know what!
Speaking of stinky messes, it’s very important to consult a veterinarian when a pooch has symptoms of an upset stomach such as really bad flatulence, diarrhea and even vomiting. It could be an issue with their GI and the poor little pup might just be miserable on the inside. Like they say, a wagging tail equals a happy dog and I’m sure we all want our furry little friends to be happy and healthy!
