As a family, we enjoy getting away together. While we don’t get to travel too far a distance, we’re fortunate to have some great destinations close to home such as Wisconsin Dells and Madison, our state’s capital city. They’re both relatively close, under two hours away, so last weekend we took a little family “staycation” to celebrate my birthday as well as Big Bro’s and stopped in Madison for a night, then hit Wisconsin Dells the next.
This little family getaway was a bit different because my brothers decided not to go at the last minute, so I invited a good friend to go along with us instead. While in Madison we stayed at Homewood Suites by Hilton Madison West and it was everything that I had in mind for a relaxing night away.
What’s wonderful about Homewood Suites by Hilton Madison West, is that they don’t have plain old basic hotel rooms. Instead, they offer roomy suites for the family to enjoy. We walked into a small kitchen to the right of the suite door and in front of us, a family style room with a couch, television and even a desk {should I have been tempted to work while on vacation}. To the left was a bedroom with two queen beds and a bathroom. This is where the kiddos slept.
To the right, much to my delight was a second bedroom with a huge king size bed, just for little ole’ moi. Ok, I did have to share with the hubby, but still – we got our own room, awesome! This bedroom had its own bathroom as well.
Now before I get off the subject of the beds, I do have to mention that they are very comfortable! I slept like a baby that night, as did the rest of my family.
Since this day of our getaway was to just relax and unwind from the stresses of life, we didn’t leave the hotel except for a walk that my friend and I took. But that’s the nice thing about Homewood Suites by Hilton Madison West, because you don’t really need to. They’ve got all of the amenities of home and you can even cook right in your suite. There’s a full size refrigerator and a two burner stove. There isn’t an oven though, so make sure not to bring anything that needs to be cooked in one. However, the refrigerator and stove top are a wonderful amenity because food is usually our number one expense while on vacation. Making it ourselves cuts the cost at least in half, usually much more.
There is a dining area right off the hotel lobby as well and each morning, you can wake up and go downstairs for a piping hot breakfast buffet. Did I mention that breakfast is complimentary? Oh, well it is – how wonderful! We enjoyed french toast, scrambled eggs, sausage, bagels, fresh fruit, cereal and more. Beverages such as juice, coffee and milk are also provided and you can even enjoy a waffle bar with all sorts of tasty toppings! The breakfast was hot, fresh and delicious!
Dinner is also offered in the dining area on weeknights.
Just outside of the dining area sits a courtyard, which the hotel surrounds. There are tables, chairs, a nice little gazebo and even grills! You can also enjoy a nice competitive game of mini golf in the courtyard, or simply relax and enjoy the fresh air.
There is also a swimming pool, hot tub and workout room for guests to enjoy. When we went down, we had the area all to ourselves, so it was quite nice. I wish I had taken my camera with so that I would have gotten some photos of the boys swimming.
Overall, we all enjoyed our time at Homewood Suites by Hilton Madison West and would definitely consider visiting again if we’re in the area. With spacious suites, it’s an ideal place to stay the night with our large family.
