~I received a copy of The Goldbergs: The Complete First Season for review. Opinions and stories are my own.~
I always wanted a show that was similar to The Wonder Years, but placed in the 80’s with its bold neon colors and ridiculous hair styles. The Goldbergs is that dream come true!
The story revolves around 11 year old Adam, who happens to have one of those huge old school video cameras that he uses to tape his family. You get to play witnesses to their hilarious and seemingly crazy (although loving!) family dynamic set in Jenkintown, PA.
Adam’s sister, Erica, is the cool 80s new wave girl; while his brother Barry is a bit of a manic who likes basketball. With an overbearing mother, a hot-headed dad and a suave Grandpa, the Goldberg’s make a great 80’s throwback family that leaves you with more than nostalgia.
The neat thing about the show is that it has elements of the creators real life! The series was created by Adam F. Goldberg and uses actual video tapes he had made of his family growing up. Just as there is the real young Adam in the videotapes and the adult show creator, there is also the young Adam character who videotapes the family and Adult Adam who narrates; voiced by Patton Oswalt!
Needless to say, it has a lot of life and love put into it.
The Goldbergs: The Complete Season One is a must have item for your home; especially if you lived through the ultra-bright and loud era of hair bands, leotards and way too much makeup.
It includes all 23 Episodes on 3 Discs, as well as many great Bonus Features!
