Halloween is my favorite holiday of the year! There is nothing more fun than dressing up in a costume and getting candy – unless of course you could get a toy instead of candy. This is the first year “Nugget” really gets Halloween and so we’ve decided to start a new tradition with him with the Switch Witches of Switchcrafted and a little bit of magic.
Did you know that witches need candy? Not to eat of course, but for their day-to-day living. Candy is even what make their brooms fly. The Switch Witches need our help though. They’ve tried to Trick-or-Treat with no luck, so they depend on us to get their candy. Thankfully these are nice witches and they’re armed with magic to make a switch – your candy for a toy that you want.
There’s one catch to make the switch from candy to toy. They will only make the trade for good girls and boys. Your very own Switch Witch will stay with you for the month of October to ensure you’re being good and if on Halloween night you’ve made your toy request and have been on your best behavior, your witch will make the switch.
Our Switch Witch, Belinda, hangs out on the mantle in the playroom to keep an eye on whether we’re being good or bad. “Nugget” loves having her in the house and makes sure to wave to her each morning.
Switchcrafted is such a cute book with a fun story behind it. We don’t like to eat a lot of candy in our house, but Halloween makes it hard to avoid. Having the ability to trade out the candy for a fun toy my son asks for is a great way to avoid all of that sugar. I like that the book says saving a little candy for yourself is ok because while I think it’s great to indulge a little on Halloween, I just don’t want him eating a whole bag full of candy. They even offer suggestions on their website of places you can donate the candy to or ways to use the candy. This is a new Halloween tradition in our house and I’ll be sad to see Belinda go on November 1st.
