I’ve said it before, but I honestly can’t say it enough. I love to give back to my community when I can. I’ve been there before, I’ve been one of those down and out people and I have had to rely on the kindness of others before. It’s not a great feeling, but it also doesn’t make me less of a person than anyone else. We all need a hand sometimes.
That’s why I like to instill these type of values into my children. I want them to be caring and compassionate people, and so far, it’s working. My boys often get involved in projects that I’m working on, like the #Fuel4Schoolproject with Champions for Kids and Kellogg Company.
The two companies have partnered from July 18 ? August 18 to encourage people to participate in #Fuel4School projects across the country to benefit kids in need in our communities. We joined in this Simple Service Project to collect gently used or new books to donate to out local library.
We told our friends and neighbors about what we were doing and asked them if they could donate a book or to for this great cause. Quite a few excitedly obliged and my kids even went through their own book stash to pick out books to donate. In the end, we had a total of 14 books to donate to our library.
While I’m quite happy with the results, I expected our book drive to do a little better, so I’m going to hit up some rummage sales this weekend to see what other books I can grab for our donation. Then on Monday, we’ll take them all to our library. The kids can’t wait to turn in the donations!
Kellogg Company and Scholastic have partnered for a special free book offer, where you’ll find a code in specially marked Kellogg’s cereal boxes and other Kellogg’s products at Walmart. Once you find the code, you’ll go online to enter it, then choose which school you’d like to donate a book to! I love initiatives like this because you don’t have to do much other than purchasing products you already would!
Twitter Party Alert!
There’s also a fun Twitter Party tying in with this campaign, and I’d love to see you there!
