Reading to Nugget is one of my favorite things to do. I love when he just hops in my lap in the middle of the day asking me to read him a story. He has his own little reading area in his room and a lot of times I find him trying to read to himself. Right now he’s very into dinosaurs. He loves reading about them and will often put on his dinosaur costume to settle in for a story. He made no exception when we read Dex T-Rex, the latest children’s book soon to be out from Stan Lee’s Kids Universe.
In Dex T-Rex: The Mischievous Little Dinosaur, Katya Bowser gives us a loveable young dinosaur who just wants to have fun, but plays too rough, until he learns an important lesson about playing nice. This latest children’s title joins the growing SLKU book roster, which currently includes Monsters vs. Kittens, Once Upon A Time There Was A Pig, and Reggie The Veggie. With the goal of promoting reading and learning to the 10 and under crowd, the SLKU label features a mix of picture books, graphic novels, mobile games, and interactive books. Each offering reflects Lee’s signature sense of imaginative storytelling with heroic characters that aim to teach, entertain and enthrall a new generation of readers and their parents.
Nugget absolutely loved this story and so did I. Dex T-Rex is basically the dinosaur version of my son – very rough and tumble. When Dex T-Rex accidentally hurts a caterpillar due to his reckless behavior, he decides to make things right. Nugget really liked this story and asked to read it over and over. He loves pretending to be a dinosaur and Dex T-Rex was very relatable to him – they both like to break sticks and splash water just for the fun of it. The illustrations in the book were also great – very fun, with a slight comic book character look, and lots of bright colors that really engaged my son.
I cannot wait to check out the other books from Stan Lee’s Kids Universe to read to my son. I know the fun titles and characters will get him even more excited about reading. Dex T-Rex will officially launch this July at Comic-Con International in San Diego, CA.
