Welcome! I am Phyllis Harris and I am so grateful that you have stopped by. As the illustrator of over 35 Children’s Picture Books, one of my greatest passions is creating art that inspires hope, love and the innocence of childhood. I have had a passion for illustration from the time I could hold a crayon. Having my own daughter in 1986 and reading her countless picture books helped me discover my calling ? creating art for children, and for the child in all of us!
I’m very particular when it comes to the art around my family. We have a few Monet reprints and Van Gogh ones as well, but a majority of our art is handmade by my brother in law. Sonshine’s bedroom is adorned with awesome steam punk pirates that inspire his imagination. We just don’t do cookie cutter, licensed characters. I like things that spark a story in my son. It’s why his playroom walls are pretty bare, nothing really caught our attention until the whimsical works of Phyllis Harris were introduced to us.
Phyllis Harris has illustrated over 35 children’s pictures books all of which are full of childhood innocence and whimsy that can be difficult to capture. There is not one of her designs that I haven’t fallen for and I’ve easily identified with either what is going on in the print myself or felt through my son and other children in my life.

Taken by nightlight in the middle of the night |
We received ‘The Boy and the Moon’ print that features a little blonde haired boy starring at the moon with his little rocket by his feet. Nothing was more perfect on the site for us than that! My little blondie has been obsessed with the moon and stars for awhile now. When you ask him what the moon is made of, he’ll tell you cheese and that there is a man that lives there. These are all things I used to tell him before he could talk! Tomorrow night, we plan on taking him out star gazing for the first time as well! Just like the boy in the print, he hopes to make it to outer space one day!
There really is just about every image to capture childhood. I love the girl with pigtails and a blowing dandelion, as it reminds me of my childhood, and the series with golden retrievers makes me long for a childhood friend. Plus, my son has been begging for another dog lately, a big dog! I could just imagine them playing and growing up together!
Grumpy toddler is also very much like my four year old. He is most definitely like his mom and not a morning person at all. The kid could sleep through an earthquake, I’m sure and when you do get him up before he’s ready to, watch out! He’s not a very forgiving morning person!
The print offered on the site is adorable, but, I don’t have a brunette kid. That’s no problem as Harris gives you the option to customize your print for you recipient! Prints take about 3-5 days to get done, then in the US you can expect it to ship in 2-5 days! That’s pretty fast turn around for such wonderful pieces!
The gicl?e printing is done with archival inks and paper, so your piece of art will last you for years and generations to come. How great would it be if my son handed this piece to grandson to be hung in his own playroom with it looking just as crisp as it does today? And speaking of playrooms, we plan to re-do the whole room scheme around this print. A rocket on the wall with the print in the middle of it, stars, planets, and the moon will go all around it. You know that a piece of art is wonderful when you can easily decorate a whole room around it!
If you’re looking for that perfect piece to pulp your child’s room together or a gift for a new mom or for any reason really, please check out the whimsical Phyllis Harris Designs and you’ll be sure to find the perfect piece!
