Thursday night game night has become a tradition in our house. After the girls are bathed for the evening and we put Lil Sis to bed then Big Sis gets to stay up and play a fun game with me and Daddy. Some of her favorite games are our Peaceable Kingdom games. Last week we played Race to the Treasure for the first time and I know it will be one of her top choices from now on!
Race to the Treasure is one of their popular cooperative style games. That means that everyone works together for a common goal against a common obstacle. Working as a team can be fun and rewarding since it is fun to try and work it out together. You can still loose but instead you loose as a team. In this game it is a race to beat the ogres to the treasure. You start my rolling the dice to determine where the keys and ogre snacks are placed on the game board.
Each player then takes turns drawing a card from the stack. The cards either have an ogre on them or a path card. You want to collect path pieces that help you get to the keys and then to the treasure. The trick is that you have to get to the treasure before the ogres do!
This game is listed for 2-4 players and for ages 5+. We played this with 3 players and my 5 year old Preschooler. I loved watching her face while working out the path pieces in her mind. Such thought was put into each move.
Fortunately for us that night we beat the ogres every time. This is a big hit and Daddy said it was his favorite cooperative game so far. It has treasure and ogres in it so it already had my love!
They also have some new games for 2014 called Say the Word, Noodle Speedoodle and Sunny Dad Pond that would also be great additions to any board game collection. You can browse through all their games to find the one that works best for your child’s age group and skill level. You can even watch a quick little video on most of the games to see how to play it and give you a better feel for the game. Weekly game night is one of our favorite family traditions and having fun games, like this one, is what makes it so great!
