Our founder Bill Schmid and his wife lost their first born to SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). From this tragedy, HALO? and its mission were born. For nearly 20 years we?ve been dedicated to putting the health, safety and well-being of babies first. From our bestselling SleepSack? wearable blankets that help babies sleep safely, to our ComfortLuxe? Sleepwear that helps little ones with sensitive skin sleep more comfortably, to our Healthy Hips? Diaper Cover that can help reduce the risk of infant hip dysplasia, all we do comes from the core idea of putting babies first.
I had no idea what a swaddle was until a cousin sent one when I was pregnant with my son. I remember just staring at it, without the faintest idea of how to use it and having the baffled amazement that soon something would fit inside of it. I couldn’t believe how easily we adapted to using one straight away, in the hospital, and how attached not only Sonshine became to it, but how much we as parents depended on the help each night to put a newborn to sleep. It’s now my favorite item to gift to newly expecting parents and I’m always on the lookout for the best that’s out there and Halo has never let us down.
The Halo SleepSack Swaddle is a two-in-one swaddle that offers the ability for swaddling arms in or out. It replaces the need for a loose blanket, which can end up covering your child’s face during the night which can easily interfere with your child’s breathing. For the first few months, a newborn is looking for security and by swaddling them, they are reminded of the cocoon that was the womb and can prevent the Moro reflex, that startle movement babies make, from waking them from sleep.
The new line is made from Muslin material, making it soft, breathable, and lightweight. The 100% Cotton Muslin is incredibly soft and becomes softer each time you wash it. I have a blanket made out of Muslin and it’s great for use during the summer and winter, so I would have no problem putting a little one in this swaddle during the summer months. I also love the option of having the ability to transition a wearable blanket by not having your child’s arms swaddled down. Sonshine used to Houdini his arms out around 6 months and sleep peacefully that way, but we couldn’t find a swaddle that offered the ability to become what we called a “baby sleeping bag”. The Halo Muslin SleepSack unzip from the top to the bottom, so no zipper poking up at your babies face and then Velcros around to keep arms in place.
The swaddle are recognized as “Hip Healthy” by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute, so no worries you’re binding too tight as it’s loose around their waist and hips The inverted zipper also helps with diaper changes without the need to unswaddle the rest of the baby and the swaddle is machine washable. Plus, those little elephants are cute to boot! Sizes available are Newborn (Birth to 3 months) or Small (3 months to 6 months).
