The love of Barbie is extremely strong in my household of 2 little girls. At 2 and 5 years old they spend hours changing their clothes and doing their hair. Of course my oldest loves all the Barbie movies so she has been the one watching the mail asking when the newest Barbie DVD would arrive. She literally jumped up and down saying it was an “amazing day” when it arrived so later that day we settled in for a movie night.
Barbie? stars as Lumina?, a mermaid who dreams of being a princess. As long as she can remember, she’s had a magical power that makes pearls dance and glow! Lumina?, and her best friend Kuda, a pink seahorse, embark on an adventure to a majestic mer-kingdom. There, she uses her powers to help her friends prepare for the Royal Ball. Lumina? then discovers that her magical pearls are the key to unlocking her true destiny and ultimately saving the kingdom. Barbie? The Pearl Princess DVD and toys will be available nationwide March 11th, 2014.
The movie is about a mermaid named Lumina and she finds herself on her way to the mer-kingdom with her best friend, Kuda, who is a seahorse. Lumina finds herself doing hair for all the mermaids before the ball with a little help from her magical powers with pearls. She too finds herself at the ball with some of her new found friends but she finds out about an evil plot to poison the King and she has to do everything in her powers to stop it.
Big Sis enjoyed every minute of the movie. The bright colors and magical underwater world are a pleasure to watch. The story line is easy for younger viewers to understand but still weaves a beautiful story with a happy ending. Barbie’s adventures are always fun to watch.
There is a line of toys to go along with the movie, which always makes the magic of the movie continue when you get to play with the characters. My daughter especially loves this Barbie because it is a mermaid and that it comes with a comb since she loves doing Barbie’s hair. Lumina’s friends work in a beauty shop so hair styling is an important part of the play with this Barbie! The string of beads in her hair is there to style her hair with. Since these pictures were taken this Barbie has made its way into the bathtub for tons of bath time fun!
The glowing review of this DVD and doll really comes from Big Sis. She was all smiles throughout the whole movie and she asked to immediately watch it again but since it was bedtime she will have to wait until another day. She told me she “just can’t get enough of the Barbie movies.” It is true because she has another version as a digital copy on her iPad and she watches it all the time. I am just excited that Barbie: The Pearl Princess came out to give her another Barbie movie for her collection.
