I for one think it is cold outside and I live in Florida but February for birds means they are already hard at work in preparation for Spring. February signals the start of Nesting Season for most bird species in North America and now it is possible to get an inside look into this miraculous annual cycle.
I am always trying to keep the interest of science alive with my girls. We have annual passes to our local science center and they really seem to love science. Of course that means that I like to get them toys and books that are educational to help foster their love of science. The coolest thing I have seen in a while would have to be the My Spy Birdhouse. Using suction cups you attach a birdhouse to one of your windows and you can watch birds built their nest, then hatch their eggs and feed their babies. I just love the idea of watching a nest from inside my own house!
The My Spy Birdhouse includes:
- Suction cups and weatherproof material, which makes it possible to be positioned outside any window, allowing bird watchers to see the action right from the comfort of their own home
- Clear acrylic window backing and two way mirror insert allows viewers to watch birds build nests, lay eggs and raise their young without ever being disturbed by on lookers
My Spy Birdhouse is the perfect size for typical backyard bird species including Wrens, Nuthatches and Chickadees. I know it is still a little early but I check our birdhouse every single day. Right now I find myself more excited than my girls at the prospect of a bird finding it and making it their home.
It completely blends in and I like the basic look of it. I had no problem getting the suction cups to stick. Their website even lets you look by region to find out what kind of birds could end up in your bird house. These would make great gifts for kids or adults! Even adults that have come over to my house think it is super neat. I am hoping for a Spring with baby birds at our house!
