I love Girl Scouts – and not just for their cookies, though they are quite delicious! You see, way back in the day about 25 or so years ago, I was a Brownie. That’s what the little Girl Scouts are called. I think I was in first or second grade. Anyway, the experience was amazing. I loved going to troop meetings and collecting badges. We would meet in my school gym and do all sorts of fun crafts. I remember the song from my handbook. “Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver and the other’s gold.” It may have been a lifetime ago, but I treasure those memories and the values that I was taught – values that I’ve passed on to my own children.
Well did you know that Girl Scout Cookies are here?! Yes, the orders are in and girls across the country are hand delivering cookies – yay! In fact, I’m meeting with my Girl Scout {a friend’s daughter} later today to pick up my boxes. I can’t wait to dig into my favorite cookies on the planet!
Another friend of mine, Jackie from Monkey Mayhem is a troop leader and has her own little Girl Scout. She was kind enough to allow me to share her photo here, so I could showcase a real Girl Scout! Isn’t she adorable?!
National Girl Scouts Cookie Weekend
February 7th marks the start of National Girl Scouts Cookie Weekend and there will be fun events across the country. If you’re nearby, you can stop at the Girl Scout Cookie Green Carpet Premiere in NYC on February 7 or join in the largest virtual Girl Scout cookie party. Of course there’s prizes and someone will win a year’s supply of Girl Scout Cookies!
Local Girl Scout Events in Milwaukee
In honor of National Girl Scouts Cookie Weekend, there’s a whole lot of fun local stuff going on in Milwaukee for the next week!
Friday, January 31 and Saturday, February 1 – Girl Scouts have rolled out with a new gluten free Chocolate Chip Shortbread Cookie and if you’re in the area, you can purchase the new cookie from the Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast (GSWISE) Marion Chester Read Center. The address is 131 S. 69th Street in Milwaukee, one block off Interstate 94. The supply is limited so make sure you get there early! They will be there selling cookies on the following dates/times:
- 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, January 31
- 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, February 1
The big event for the GSWISE during National Girl Scouts Cookie Weekend is their Cookie Truck! I don’t have location details yet, but the truck will be in downtown Milwaukee on Thursday and Friday of next week. I will update once I hear more on this.
In the meantime, you can connect with the Girl Scouts of the USA through their social channels and keep up with all of the great happenings going on across the nation.
Were you a Girl Scout when you were growing up or have a daughter that’s a Girl Scout now? What is your/her favorite part of being a Girl Scout?
