I’ve mentioned many times that I have to stretch my dollars as much as I can. Whether I like to or not, I just have to because there are so many mouths to feed in my house. My husband and I keep a gallon size pickle jar in our bedroom and throw our pocket change in it for when times get rough. Trust me, that extra $20 – or if I’m lucky $40, really helps some weeks.
With the holidays just a week away, I’m sure many of you could use a little stretch in your holiday budget. If you’ve got a change jar, or even just some spare change lying around, you can go to your nearest Coinstar kiosk {located in many stores} and turn in your change for some extra holiday cash!
There are a few different options to choose from at your Coinstar kiosk. You can get a Cash Voucher and get a receipt that turns into cold hard cash from a cashier at the store in which the Coinstar kiosk is located. There is a small fee for this, but well worth it.
You can also turn your coins in to eCertificates for a variety of popular retailers, donate to a charity, have it put onto a prepaid card or even PayPal. I’ve been using Coinstar for years and always choose the cash option. It’s just the one that works best for my family.
Now I’d like to share with you some fun facts from a recent Coinstar survey.
- The average American thinks they have about $26 in spare change right now, but the average Coinstar kiosk transaction is $56. That’s more than twice as much – so you never know what you have until you find out!
- More than half of consumers are likely to use cash to purchase their holiday gifts.
- 92% of people would pick up a quarter if they found it lying on the street and 66% would pick up a penny. That’s not a huge difference, so I guess it’s true when they say “every penny counts”!
- 53% of people find spare change in their car, 19 in their closet, 30% in the couch and 59% in their backpack or purse.
