I was given the opportunity to review a foreign language for the month of December. For those of you that were not aware that December is Learn A Foreign Language month, and now would be a great time to start. Caryn Antonini, graduate of the Georgetown University School of Languages and Linguistics, has created Early Lingo to give her child the advantages of learning a foreign language as an infant.
Early Lingo DVD series makes learning a foreign language fun and easy for toddlers. The DVD series is available in ESL French, Italian, Spanish, Chinese and German. Each language comes with six DVDs and offers animated and live-action videos to teach a child the basic foundation of a foreign language using the total immersion method.
What is the total immersion method you ask? Language Immersion is a method of teaching a second language with no use of translation, the child is immersed into the target language. As the child is immersed in the second language, they become fluent speakers of the language at an early age. This will not confuse your child, but will help your child. Being a multilingual child will help them score higher on standardized tests.
Use playtime as a way to make your child multilingual. I began teaching my daughter Spanish after she learned the English version of her alphabet and numbers. In the You Tube video you can see that repetition is their main strategy of learning. I have included a translation guide for the You Tube video to help you teach your child German, but your child should not need the translation guide for they are being “immersed” in the language.
This video series is fun and entertaining for your child to learn multiple languages. I highly recommend this video series to anyone encouraging their child to learn a second language. My daughter and I enjoyed watching and learning with Jojo & Lulu.
