I love decorating but I wouldn’t enjoy decorating the same room every year! Why don?t we decorate our child’s room that has a theme they like, but won’t need completely redoing every year as they get older?
Let’s start with the basics, the floor and the walls. It’s easy to get carried away with themes and before you know it, you’ve ended up in a character nightmare. I don’t think I would appreciate millions of Belle or Roary staring at me until I left home! Sticking to plain colors works much better because you can add accessories to create the illusion you’re after. For example, you could add some stickers or glitter to a feature wall, to create a fairy wonderland for a little girl. The right stickers can also create the right theme for a boy’s room. Similarly, you could add a nice rug to jazz up plain, neutral flooring.
So, that’s the shell of the room sorted, what about the rest? I find that choosing room accessories for your child’s bedroom is one the most fun things about redecorating. Take wall lights, they can be playful or, be really subtle and blend in with the room. If your child really loves a particular theme, accessories on items such as lamps or bed linens are perfect for indulging in it. They are relatively inexpensive and easy to replace, unlike wallpaper or carpet. Also, to organize things properly, every child’s room needs storage. All those party favors and craft items need a home somewhere! I think that it’s important that accessories, such as storage solutions, really enhance your area without overwhelming it. For room themes you can have too much of a good thing, in my opinion.
So, by getting the accessories right, you can easily alter your child’s room as they grow but with the minimum of hassle.
