In this day and age, it’s a bit more difficult to get kids to focus on reading a book as they seem to be more interest in the latest technology fad out there. That’s why an e-Reader seems to be a great option because it’s a “device” that kids seem more interested in. They’re all the rage for kids and adults alike these days.
When I had the opportunity to review an e-Reader from Kobo, the first thing I did was ask my boys if it was something they would want – if it would help encourage them to read more. Of course they both said yes and were quite excited to check it out.
Of course, mom had to “check it out” first upon arrival of the Kobo Touch! I took it out of the box and set forth to get it all set up – which was pretty easy. I charged it, followed the directions, then started adding books to it. Since it connects right to Wi Fi, I didn’t even have to plug it into the computer. I was able to browse books in all different categories and upload them in no time at all. There is even a great selection of free books, which I love!
“Kobo Touch delivers a superb reading experience, whether you’re reading the latest eBook or your favourite magazine. That’s because Kobo Touch is fully equipped with a no-glare 6″ Pearl E Ink touchscreen for a print-on-paper reading experience. Because E Ink is actually tiny particles of ink that are mixed in with each pixel on the screen, every word appears sharp and crisp just like a paper book. That’s how Kobo Touch puts the focus on reading: no glare, no distractions, just a great reading experience ? even in bright sunlight.”
Once the boys got their hands on it, they couldn’t put it down. They even argued about who got to read on it each evening before bedtime. I had to actually designate days for each of them because of it and have decided that they will be getting another for Christmas. Since they like to play games and do other things, I think the Kobo Arc 7HD really is our best bet.
Some of my favorite features of the Kobo Touch are the battery life and the “print on paper” reading experience. One of my biggest pet peeves with e-Readers is the glare, especially because I wear glasses. A glare really bothers my eyes and I don’t have to worry about that at all with the Kobo Touch. Sometimes I “borrow” it to read my books, instead of using my tablet – which gives off a lot of glare. The battery stays charged for a very long time, which is just unbelievable. I really love that about it, because there’s almost nothing worse than the battery dying right in the middle of a great read!
We have the basic “black” Kobo Touch, but it is also available in Silver, Lilac, Blue and White if you like a little color in your life. You can also dress it up with protective accessories.
