We simply rely on a chef inspired blend of pure, naturally intense ingredients and a passion for evoking pleasure and delight in every frozen bite
If you asked my husband what my favorite frozen treat is, he’d tell you I’m odd for being in love with gelato. A lot of people I know seem to share his sentiments, growing up in Upstate New York where soft serve rules with an iron fist, and in North Carolina where frozen custard reigns supreme, it’s difficult to be a fan of something so delicious! But, gelato has such a dense, creamy mouth feel and holds up to so many different flavors (like an olive oil I had on a birthday years ago) that I almost feel bad for everyone else! And when gelato’s intense flavors just aren’t right that day, I open up a container of tangy, icy sorbet.
Ciao Bella offers the best of both worlds with a full line of gelato and sorbet. Just about any flavor you can imagine and some surprising ones are available. For the gelato we tried the Tahitian Vanilla which has a creamy body, that’s some how lighter and denser than ice cream. It’s a wonderful mouth feel that ice cream just can’t attain. Speckled with vanilla beans, it’s vanilla flavor is both classic and unexpected.
We also tried the Sea Salt Caramel, which has become a popular flavor of the paste few years. Usually, this is my go-to gelato flavor, but my husband snagged and ate the whole thing himself! The man may be shaped like a string bean, but once he finds something he likes, it’s gone in the blink of an eye (so unfair!). He said the Sea Salt Caramel was extremely smooth and pretty sweet. It had a rich caramel flavor, intensified by caramel swirls. The chunks of chocolate brought at balance to the caramel and it all had a light after taste of sea salt.
For the sorbet, we tried two different flavors. Raspberry, which Sonshine claimed as his own and Lemon Zest. The Raspberry sorbet has a vibrant red color that just screams to be eaten. It’s smooth, icy textures is great for younger kids and melts on the tongue with a raspberry tartness. The Lemon Zest had a wonderful burst of tangy lemon with just enough sweetness so as to not make me pucker up. It made me long for warm summer days and a big tall glass of frosty lemonade. Much like the Raspberry, it was icy and tempted my taste buds in a pleasing way. It was so good, that I found out one afternoon my four year old had eaten half a container in quiet, gratifying solitude at some point. That’s how delicious Ciao Bella Sorbet is.
We’re a big fan of Ciao Bella in our home, so much so that it’s on the grocery list every two weeks now! And if you’re still looking for a delicious and unexpected dessert this year, have I got a recipe for you featuring the Ciao Bella Blackberry Cabernet Sorbet paired with Mint Sugar Cookies.
