Do you remember that book series you read as kid and you could wait to read the next chapter or the next book? I do. There is a new series available that has my kids excited and is leaving them wanting more! That series is Awesome Animals by Barron’s books. We had a great time reading four of the Awesome Animals books.
In Panda Panic: Running Wild, Ping the panda is on the hunt for adventure. When he gets swept down the river, he finally finds the excitement he’s been waiting for. But will the shadows, bandits, and lurking snow leopards prove to be too much adventure even for Ping?
In Penguin Pandemonium: The Rescue, two baby penguins are missing and the rest of the City Zoo penguins set out across the zoo on a daring rescue mission. They hang with the monkeys, fish for clues in the aquarium, and try not to get spotted by the leopard in a fast-paced adventure full of fun.
In More Meerkat Madness, Mimi, Skeema, and Little Dream are unhappy when Uncle invites a fluffy stranger to join the Really Mad Mob. So when Little Dream dreams that their missing mama is calling him, the kits set off to search for her. But a lost lion cub has other plans for them.
Merry Meerkat Madness is a hilarious holiday adventure and a must-read for little meerkat fans. It’s Christmas in the Kalahari and the Really Mad Mob of meerkats are about to have a very Merry Meerkat Christmas!
All of the Awesome Animals books contain cartoon-style illustrations that help tell the story. Even though my girls are reading chapter books, they really like it when they contain illustrations. The chapters are long enough to get my girls into the story, but short enough that they can get a chapter read in between activities.
There is even more! There is a FREE online reader’s club where kids can play games, enter contests for free stuff, read excerpts from other Awesome Animals books and more.
My girls really enjoyed the four Awesome Animals books above and have taken them into school to share with their classmates. As a parent, I am thrilled that my girls have found a series they enjoy reading and leaves them wanting more. I would recommend the Awesome Animals books for boys and girls in second – fourth grade.
