Jack Tobin is a trial lawyer with a searing-hot reputation in Miami, far removed from his scrappy youth on the streets of New York.
But when a young man, Rudy, is railroaded into a murder conviction in the tiny Florida backwater of Bass Creek, Tobin resolves to pay back a debt to his best friend, the boy who once dubbed him ‘the Mayor of Lexington Avenue’.
Heartbreak, tragedy, courtroom drama and the hope of redemption play out in this utterly page-turning, thought-provoking legal thriller.

This is officially the second book I have reviewed by James Sheehan and I now have no problem saying that I am a huge fan! His legal thrillers have me staying up late into the night to finish them which isn’t something I have really done since college! He has a way of setting up a book for me to immediately find attachment to characters but that does not mean that those characters are safe! I am a librarian married to a lawyer who lives in Florida so the fact his book settings are in Florida only increases my enjoyment of the books.
My Summary
Rudy is a 19 year old man that is kind but a little slow and who is too trusting of all people. When there is a murder in the small town of Bass Creek, Florida he is immediately pegged as the only suspect and through quick and dirty police work he is found guilty and sentenced to death.
Jack Tobin grew up on the streets of New York with his best friend Mikey. Mikey dubbed Jack, The Mayor of Lexington Avenue and that he was destined for great things. Over the years they lost touch but neither forgot the other. Jack went off to become a millionaire as a lawyer in Miami.
Many years later, Jack Tobin finds a connection with Rudy, as he is merely a few weeks away from execution. He throws himself into the task of proving Rudy’s innocence using his many years experience as a top notch lawyer. The problem is people keep dying. With the weeks dwindling and key pieces of evidence missing there just might not be enough time to save him.
Courtroom drama at its best, Sheehan finds a way for the reader to enjoy a legal thriller even if you don’t like legal thrillers! I have never read any legal thriller’s quite like his and it might be because his writing is so strong while still upholding the plot and keeping you on your toes with twists and turns that all flow seamlessly. Overall a great read that any would enjoy!
