HALO Innovation’s
SleepSack? wearable blankets have become the standard for hospital
nurseries and parents alike. In fact, 1,000 hospital nurseries use the
HALO SleepSack Swaddle instead of blankets through the HALO Safer Way to Sleep Initiative.
That is 1.5 million births getting first-hand, in-hospital experience
with the HALO SleepSack Swaddle and safe sleep practices! Modeling safe
sleep practices for parents in the hospital is the key to safer sleep
practices at home. HALO Innovations also offers free Safe Sleep
Practices kits to childbirth educators to help further the cause of SIDS
prevention.
When my two were babies my number one concern was SIDS. I was downright paranoid and followed every guideline I could find. I had a baby cousin die before I was born from SIDS so it has always been something close to my heart. I have always been a huge fan of Halo and their SleepSacks and Swaddles because I think they offer a great way to keep baby cozy while still keeping baby safe.
September is Baby Safety Month and October is SIDS Awareness so now is a great time to tell you about their brand new designs that are absolutely adorable! All of these new designs are 100% cotton.
- Sleeveless design allows for ventilation and reduces the risk of overheating.
- Generous sack design allows room for kicking, but can?t be kicked off so baby stays warm all night.
- Unzips from the bottom for easy diaper changes.
- “Back is Best” embroidery reminds caregivers to place baby on his or her back.
- Used by hundreds of hospital nurseries as their product of choice for teaching parents safe sleep practices
- Recognized as “Hip Healthy” by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute.
- HALO supports non-profit organizations like FirstCandle/SIDS
Alliance and The Canadian Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths.
Lil Sis is 22 months old and about 23 pounds. This is her in the size XL and it fits great with more than enough room for her to grow. Yes she does walk but she never gets up and walks during the night so the sack works great for her. I like it because her toes never get cold since she can’t kick it off! This bad boy is extremely soft and Big Sis at 4 wanted one for herself because she said it was so soft.
Baby’s Safe List Checklist:
- Place baby to sleep on his or her back at naptime and at night time.
- Use a crib that meets current safety standards with a firm mattress that fits snuggly and is covered with only a tight-fitting crib sheet.
- Remove all soft bedding and toys from your baby’s sleep area (this includes loose blankets, bumpers and positioners).
- The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests using a wearable blanket instead of loose blankets to keep your baby warm.
- Offer a pacifier when putting baby to sleep. If breastfeeding, introduce pacifier after one month or after breastfeeding has been established.
- Breastfeed, if possible, but when finished, put your baby back to sleep in his or her separate safe sleep area alongside your bed.
- Never put your baby to sleep on any soft surface (adult beds, sofas, chairs, water beds, quilts, sheep skins etc.)
- Never dress your baby too warmly for sleep; keep room temperature 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Never allow anyone to smoke around your baby or take your baby into a room or car where someone has recently smoked.
Halo is always coming out with new designs and products. Check out their newest line over on their website. Neither of the two hospitals I delivered at had these swaddles but I love the idea behind it and if I ever have another baby I will definitely bring my own Halo SleepSack so that I start out for their first moment doing the safest thing that I know how. Don’t forget that when placing baby in their bed that Back is Best!
