We make dinner at home just about every single night. With a family of 7 and extra people around constantly, it’s the only way to go without completely emptying my pockets. But cooking takes time, time that I would sometimes rather spend doing other things – especially in the summertime.
Some days, I just have to cheat a little at mealtime. Pre-made meals that you just pop in the oven are a huge time and sanity saver some days. My problem is, I’m very picky with these type of meals. There are only certain ones that I will buy and I’m not overly eager to trying new ones.
Since I’ve tried some other products from Reser’s Fine Foods in the past, I was definitely open to trying their new Main St. Bistro dinner and side dishes. After all, they look pretty good. I wanted to see if they tasted just as good.
My package arrived on ice. These are unlike other pre-made meals. They are found right in the refrigerator section of your local grocery store. When you get home, just stick them right back in the refrigerator until you’re ready to cook and serve!
I received the following for my review:
- Penne Toscana with Italian Sausage: Tender penne pasta in a traditional red sauce baked with Parmesan cheese, Italian sausage, and traditional spices topped with golden brown mozarella cheese.
- Pasta Alfredo with White Chicken and Bacon: A baked Alfredo dish that combines pasta, tender white chicken and bacon that is topped with golden brown mozarella cheese.
- Baked Scalloped Potatoes: A rich and creamy baked casserole of tender sliced potatoes topped with golden brown cheddar cheese.
- Baked Macaroni & Cheese: A rich and savory baked macaroni and cheese casserole topped with golden brown cheddar cheese.
First we tried the Reser’s Main St. Bistro Baked Dinners, though they didn’t quite make it until dinnertime. It was afternoon, I was hungry and I didn’t feel like whipping together a big ole lunch for us all. There were just 5 of us that day, so I thought these would be perfect to try!
They were super easy to make, as easy as heating up the oven and throwing them in for around 7 minutes. The Penne Toscana with Italian Sausage was my favorite, while the Pasta Alfredo with White Chicken and Bacon was The Man’s favorite. Just goes to show how different our taste buds are!
Nonetheless, these meals were pretty darn good, better than other similar meals I’ve tried. These were full of rich, delicious flavor and if you didn’t know better, you might even think they were homemade.
For dinner that evening, we were having chicken breasts. Of course sides were on the menu and it seemed like the best time t try these ones. I have to say, hands down the Baked Macaroni & Cheese was the best I’ve ever had. If all mac n cheese could taste this good, I would eat it more often. I will definitely be buying this brand as a side for many other meals to come!
Reser’s Fine Foods has a very extensive variety of food products. They have deli salads, which I’ve purchased in the past and liked rather well. They also offer dips, Mexican Food and Specialty Items in addition to their Entrees and Side Dishes.
