Based on the novel The Heritage of Lancaster County by Beverly Lewis, The Confession is the sequel to Beverly Lewis’ The Shunning that aired on Hallmark in 2011. It is the story about Katie Lapp, a young Amish woman who is searching for herself. Having found that she was adopted 20 years ago, she goes in search of her “Englisher” mother and solve the mysteries of her life.
In The Confession, Katie goes on a quest into the world of the “Englishers” to find her birth-mother. Along the way there are two men (a business man and a childhood friend) who try to help her overcome a scheme that seeks to take away her inheritance and Katie finds herself more and more caught between two world’s she loves.
I was captivated by this film! I grew up around the Amish when I was young and seeing a story that weaves their world with ours is pretty fascinating. I hadn’t seen the first film, The Shunning, but was capable of keeping with the story-line easily and the movie was just as beautiful and rich.
The movie stars Katie Leclerc (Switched at Birth) as Katie Lapp, Sherry Stringfield (NYPD Blue, Guiding Light) as her birth mother Laura Bennet and Adrian Paul (The Highlander!) as Dylan Bennet.
With an amazing story by New York Times Best Selling author Beverly Lewis and a wonderful cast, it is no wonder Katie Lapp’s life is so compelling to watch. Whether you have read the books, watched the first movie (The Shunning) or are like me – newly watching, you will find your heart wrapped around The Confession and waiting until the very last moment.
You can watch special clips and interview videos with the cast on The Confession on Hallmark. I especially liked the video on how Katie Leclerc worked with a voice coach on how to speak with a German accent. That touch is really important when portraying the Amish as the majority of them do speak German!
Don’t miss out! You can pick up The Confession for $14.96 on Amazon.
I received a copy of the film for the purpose of reviewing. Opinions are my own and are not influenced by any form of compensation.
