Ring the Bell is a Christian Family Film directed by Thomas Weber and starring Ryan Scharoun, Ashley Anderson McCarthy and Casey Bond (Moneyball). It also features the band Casting Crowns and the award winning Steven Curtis Chapman!
The film begins with the fast paced city sports agent named Rob Decker who believes he has everything he could ever want as he is single, successful and rich. He faces what would be his opposite in an employee that refuses to take a work trip to sign a highschool superstar during the week of his son’s first baseball game. The man moves to tell Rob that work isn’t the only thing in life and the disagreement leads Rob into taking the task of signing the boy himself.
Rob leaves his city and everything he knows behind to go down into small town America. Eventually, what he finds is something more than a baseball superstar and not at all what he expected.
Ring the Bell is a very wholesome family movie that centers around Baseball and in many ways, uses the game as a guide towards understanding that money, power and glory aren’t the only things in life. If you are a Christian and a Baseball fan, you are going to absolutely love this movie! However, the heart of the story is about faith, so secular viewers may not be tuned in to it as much.
I thought the purpose of the film was beautiful; especially since it showcases sharing love through good works and centers around a home that takes in foster children. The actors genuinely believe in what they are promoting through the film, a greater purpose and path in life. The music is actually quite riveting and gets stuck in your head and your heart long after the film is over.
It does portray small town America quite well; even if a little more faith laden than towns I grew up in. Small towns do have an amazing way of offering the world a view of what it means to carry the community in your heart, to care for your neighbors and to hold each other up in difficult times. I was really happy to see that this was a significant part of the film.
Certainly a great family movie night pick for Christian families or super baseball fans!
