A few weeks ago, the most adorable (and tiniest) models in the world took to the runways for the first ever Global Kids Fashion Week. At the event, designer kids clothes from brands ranging from Little Marc Jacobs to Rachel Riley showcased the trends for the spring/summer 2013. So how can you dress your son or daughter to look like a stylish little fashionista this season? Here are the top trends to watch:
Nautical
Create a look for the little ones that is fit for the high seas for the spring/summer 2013 season. Navy and white stripes are in style this season, so pick up polo shirts for the boys and above-the-knee dresses for the girls that utilize this color combo. If you want to add a brighter color to the ensemble, consider a red belt for the boys and a yellow pair of shoes or purse for the girls. Don?t forget the headwear! A baseball cap for the boys and a sunhat for the girls will protect them from the harsh rays.
Urban cool
Make no mistake: it’s hip to be a kid this season. Bright colors like poppy reds, nectarine oranges, and sunshine yellows are on-trend for childrenswear this season, and can be seen in everything from colored denim to funky shoelaces. Speaking of denim, the all-denim look is back this season, so consider investing in a fitted denim jacket or vest, a pair of slim fit jeans, and sunglasses to make your little boys look ultra-hip this season. As for your little girls, they?ll love the glitz and glamor of the high shine trend. Dress them in a pair of shiny silver leggings or gold metallic jeans to make them feel like a true superstar this season.
?60s/?70s
Flower power is back in a big way for spring/summer 2013. For the girls, dresses with floral prints are an obvious choice, but knit dresses and cardigans with bold geometric prints?zig zags, hearts, and circles?will take the trend to a whole new level. Feel free to play with accessories to accentuate the ?60s/?70s style as well: sunglasses, head scarves, and knee socks all help to create that fun retro look.
For the boys, chino shorts with suspenders help to create that throwback look, as do stylish woven paper trilby hats. To give the look a modern spin, don?t be afraid to play around with color. A salmon pink polo or pair of red cotton shorts may not be traditional for a boy’s wardrobe, but when paired with more muted tones like light blue, sand, or grey, they can really take his style to the next level. Finish off their look with a pair of sandals or classic white tennis shoes.
