With so much focus on other countries and their hungry children, I wonder if you know that hunger affects our children right here in the US too. In fact, one in five children go without breakfast on a daily basis! Those statistics broke my heart. That is an awful lot of children and something really needs to be done about it!
To do their part, Taye Diggs has teamed up with Kellogg’s to share breakfast with children in need in the third annual Share Breakfast initiative. You can help by tweeting out the following message!

For each share, Kellogg’s will donate a breakfast to a child in need.
Kellogg’s sent me a kit of my very own to share breakfast too! My plan was to pull off a breakfast at my local food pantry this past week, though my kit didn’t arrive in time. Instead, I will drop the kit off this week with my son’s teacher, along with some other breakfast staples such as milk and more boxes of cereal. Then the kids in his class can all enjoy breakfast together!
There are so many ways that you can help share breakfast too, even if you can’t afford to actually “share” food. Here are just some of the ways that you can help:
- Watching and sharing the Great Start Videos on?ShareBreakfast.com?
- Sharing the?public service announcement?with friends
- Sharing your?“share”?on your Facebook page
- Posting on?Twitter?with the #ShareBreakfast?
- Sharing and repining on?Pinterest
No child should ever go hungry. It’s the saddest thing to hear of. But there are ways in which we can all help.
- If you have the resources, you can purchase food to donate to your local food pantry. They are always in need of donations from people in the community.
- Send a bag of food to a neighbor that you may know of in need.
- Start a food drive. It doesn’t have to be huge, every little bit helps!
At my kids’ last school, they offered breakfast every morning. Their current school doesn’t and I can’t help but wonder why. Since our children spend the majority of the day in school, wouldn’t it make sense to have a breakfast program within their walls? Perhaps then, so many children would not go without breakfast!
I’m sure there has to be something that we could put together. Perhaps each family sends in cereal, fruit, milk and/or other things every month. Or maybe the school could offer a program and parents could send money in for their children to participate.
What other ideas do you have to share breakfast?
I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Kellogg’s. I received a product sample as well as a promotional item as a thank-you for participating. All opinions are my own and/or my family’s, take it or leave it. Click here to view my whole disclosure policy.
