Miss Nina has filled our home with a lot of laughs lately. It’s been really pleasant since my son has been ill off and on for the last month. I know he’s feeling better when he asks for his “new CD” and gets up to dance and sing to his favorite tracks. Sha Doo Be Doop isn’t just an album, it is an energetic mash of entertainment for kids, coupling the classic favorite stories and rhymes that most preschoolers already know.
One of my son’s favorite tracks to sing along with is The Brown Bear Rap. Brown Bear, Brown Bear by Bill Martin Jr. has always been his most favorite book since he was little. Hearing it rapped over the speakers and cleverly intermixed with sing-song rhymes like Baa Baa Black Sheep brought him an overwhelming sense of joy. It was a new song that he’d never heard and yet contained a familiarity that he could find comfort in. After that… Miss Nina won his heart.
I personally enjoyed My Hula Hoop. It is the very first track and carries the Sha Doo Be Doop line that titles the album. The tune is extremely catchy! Since my tot and can’t sit still while listening to the track, we tend to imagine we are hula hooping and the beat does the rest. It is very Hip-Hop / Pop. If you visit Miss Nina’s Music page you can listen to the track. Be warned though! You won’t get this tune out of your head for a long time.
Another big favorite of my son’s is How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight. This title is actually a book by Jane Yolen that is transformed into an incredibly entertaining song. The chorus of this track is NoNoNoNoNo… NoNoNoNoNo… so if your child likes to say No a lot they are going to love this! My tot just runs around screaming NoNoNo and laughing. Especially since he generally can’t say No to Mommy. It’s a lot of fun! I actually plan to get the book the next time we’re capable of leaving our quarantine house and visiting the library.
Ridin’ In My Car is one of the top favorites songs of all time for my son. He loves, loves anything that has to do with wheels and pretending he is driving around the living-room is his favorite thing to do. Miss Nina has children get up and play, from putting on their seat-belts to eating snacks, it is a very poppy tune that gets you bouncing!
The last track I wanted to tell you about is Wild Things and you guessed it, it is based on Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak! It’s a interactive tune that props kids to roar, gnash their teeth and show their terrible claws! Or hands if you don’t have an imagination. If Miss Nina hasn’t gotten you off the couch in the beginning of the album, this song is going to have you feeling like you are a kid again, pretending to be a Wild Thing. Roar!
Nina Stone, as Miss Nina, had previously released a Parents’ Choice Recommended Award winning album, Singing and Dancing Together in 2010 and I have no doubt in my mind that Sha Doo Be Doop is going to be her next award winner.
Sha Doo Be Doop by Miss Nina releases in April of this year. When the date comes closer I’ll make sure to remind everyone! Until then, check out the website Music Player and look below! There’s a gift from Miss Nina & Little Monster, a downloadable track of the New Alphabet song!
