Don’t you just love Valentine’s Day?? Flowers, chocolates, hearts and love? Well, I LOVE making things for Valentine’s Day so I made these great DIY Stamped Hearts to use in a million different ways – all with only 3 basic ingredients!
I bet you all have those in your cabinets as we speak!? I will show you the easy steps to making some great gifts!
DIY Stamped Hearts
You need:
- 1/2 cup Cornstarch
- 1 cup Baking Soda
- 3/4 cup water
Combine the ingredients into a medium sized pot and stir constantly over medium-low heat.? Keep stirring or it will clump. ? As it heats it will thicken up.? When it looks like smooth mashed potatoes (or white icing?) take the pot off the heat.
Scoop the dough into a bowl and cover with a damp cloth until the dough is cool enough to touch.
On a smooth surface dusted with cornstarch, knead the dough until smooth – adding in a sprinkle of cornstarch if it feels sticky.? The dough MUST be well kneaded before you roll it out, or you will have cracks.
The clay will keep in the fridge for a few weeks in an air tight container.? Just make sure you let it warm to room temperature before you roll it out.
Now for the fun!?
Grab a handful of dough and roll it out to about 1/4 inch thick.? Too thick and it won’t harden right, too thin and it will be brittle and break.
Here is where you can use your imagination!? I found some pretty stamps (flowers, butterflies, wings, etc.) and gently stamped pretty blue and silver ink onto the dough. Not too hard!
I used a heart cookie cutter to cut out a heart.? And then used a straw to poke the hole.? I wanted these to be ornaments, pendants, and a key chain!
You could forget the hole and turn it into something like a magnet or a pin!
Bake at 175 for about an hour – turning over halfway. Let cool and then decorate!
To jazz them up I used Modge Podge (to give it a glazed look), watered down metallic acrylic paint, pretty ribbon, black silk cord, magnet tape, etc.? They can literally be turned in 100 different things.
Here are some of my final products:
I can’t wait to give these stamped hearts to friends and family as gifts this Valentine’s Day!
Happy Crafting!
