Last week I shared a post with you about shopping small on Small Business Saturday. The purpose of that post was to spread the word and try to get people involved. I know there are many different thought on this, both positive and negative. That’s why I want to inform you a little bit more.
There are many people who think you have to spend more to shop small. However, that is not the case! Shopping small does not have to break the bank! Here is an example of different small businesses in my community:
- Gas Station – Local gas station run by a family that lives above it. Their prices are the same as others around town and gas is actually cheaper because it’s not right off the freeway.
- Restaurant or Diner – We have a number of restaurants and diners that aren’t owned by a chain or corporation. Their food is great and usually cheaper than the competition!
- Pet Shop – We have a pet shop that sells all things style for pets and pet owners. Their leases and collars are no more expensive than the larger pet stores.
- Coffee Shop – Cheaper prices and great taste compared to that mega chain one!
- Music Store – Friendly, personal service as opposed to larger music stores who just want to make a quick sale.
- Bakery – Fresh breads, donuts, croissants and bagels; all for the same price as the grocery store.
- Garage – The auto repair garage; A1 service from ours! My husband always works on our cars, but one time he couldn’t figure out what the problem was. The garage troubleshooted the problem and charged him reasonably for their time.
- Hair Salon – Same cost as big name salon, with better service!
I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for American Express. I received a promotional item as a thank-you for participating.? ll opinions are my own and/or my family’s, take it or leave it. Click here to view my whole disclosure policy.
