Tis the season for giving and that’s just what Lil Man’s school is doing. They are sponsoring or “adopting” 6 families this Christmas, with a combined total of 14 children. And the best part, the students are all involved in the giving!
He home a letter home last Friday telling us all about the Chores for Change initiative sponsored by the Student Council. They asked students to take an active role in their family’s contribution by doing chores to earn change. They will contribute the change to “Adopt-A-Family” to make the holidays brighter for families in need. Each classroom has a goal of $75.
My son found all sorts of things that he could do to make change. I thought it was an amazing test of his character and seeing him in action really made me a proud mom. I know that we have taught him well with his huge compassion for others and it really warms my heart.
He collected $5.42 total, which is pretty awesome! He just mentioned that his class didn’t reach their goal as of today, so I’m going to give him and extra couple of dollars in hopes that it will help them reach their goal.
During our discussion about the “Chores for Change” collection with our kids, we explained to them that not every kid is able to have a nice Christmas. We talked about how they would feel if they were in another child’s shoes and what they could do to help. After our talk, Big Bro decided that he would join in too. Only he will do it a little bit different since he’s in middle school and his school isn’t involved. He did chores right along with his brother and collected some change. He will continue to do so until December 1st, then take his change in to Coinstar and cash it in. He’s going to pick a toy for a child and put it in the Toys 4 Tots donation box!
What are your family’s traditions for giving during the holidays?
