Health insurance is a big issue these days. No matter what social site I’m on, I see all sorts of chatter about it. It’s no wonder though, because so many people are just under insured. Those doctor visits definitely aren’t cheap and paying out of pocket can become expensive, fast!
A recent study by Aflac reveals that 56% of workers waste up to $750 every year by making mistakes with their insurance benefits choices. That equals up to about 4 months worth of groceries for one person and around 200 gallons of gas. I don’t know about you, but that’s an expensive mistake to me!
More than half of the consumers surveyed said that they are not always aware of their policy changes each year during open enrollment. Almost half of the people never exceed their deductible costs either! That’s a real shame because it seems like a lot of people are in the dark about their health care. It really comes down to employers breaking it down in a way for employees to better understand what they’re getting into.
Health care is really starting to eat up peoples’ budgets too.The study shows that almost 40% of workers have to cut stuff out of their life and/or work more hours just to pay for health care.
This year, I encourage you to do a little bit of research during the open enrollment period. If you don’t understand something, ask your employer. If they don’t have the answer, make them find it! It’s your money, your health and your life. Make sure that you are getting the kind of health care coverage that you need and deserve.
I wrote this review while participating in a campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Aflac and received a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate. Opinions expressed are my own. Take it or leave it.
