As I’ve grown older and the health of our planet is in the spotlight and talked about much more, I’ve started to find little ways that my family can help. Each person can really make a difference, even if just a small difference. I never had a very close family to share tips, tricks and knowledge while I was growing up, so I never heard about healthy cleaning with vinegar before. Come to find out, it’s an old trick that’s been around for ages.
When I heard about cleaning with vinegar, I was intrigued. It’s non-toxic, eco-friendly and a very cost effective way to clean. Using vinegar to clean, I can help the environment and save a few bucks at the same time. But, I did have to ask myself “Will this really work and do a good job?” Honestly, I wasn’t buying it all that much, especially the claims for cleaning certain things.
I really wanted to see if it would work and figured I would only be out a couple of dollars if it didn’t. After searching online for stores that carry Heinz Cleaning Vinegar, I found that the Walmart a few towns away carries it. You would assume that Heinz Cleaning Vinegar would be near other cleaning solutions, but it’s actually by the vinegar in the grocery section. You can see my whole shopping trip here.
After getting home, I decided to put #HeinzVinegar to the test and see what all the hype about these natural cleaning solutions were all about. I grabbed the vinegar, spray bottle and a sponge, then mixed my multi-pupose cleaner solution.
The photo above is my countertop after dinner. As you can see, it’s quite messy and dirty, yuck! I sprayed on my concoction of green cleaning solution {just 1 part vinegar and 3 parts water}, let it soak a minute, then wiped it clean.
Here’s my countertop afterward, shiny and clean! I was honestly amazed at the turn out. I didn’t expect it to clean as well as other multi-pupose cleaners that I’ve used, but it did! I am impressed!
I found some tips for cleaning with vinegar online and saw one for cleaning and shining pennies. I thought it would be a quick and fun little test, so I grabbed a few pennies that were old and dirty. I laid them on the counter, on top of paper so that they didn’t blend in and you could see all of the colors.
I followed the directions and put a layer of salt on the pennies. Then I put a few drops of vinegar on them and lightly rubbed it all off with paper towel. Just look at how much shinier they are! If you look closely, the top left penny is two-tone. That’s because I only did a partial clean on this one to see if you could really tell the difference. You sure can because the top of the penny is much cleaner than the bottom. I think it worked great!
I went into my bathroom after the boys had been cleaning/organizing the garage all weekend. They had been using the downstairs bathroom to wash themselves up ans well as all their supplies for cleaning and painting. Well my poor sink was filthy, not to mention that there was a ring around the bottom from the iron in our well water. I’ve been having a hard time getting that out. I thought I’d give the vinegar a try in the sink to see how well that would work since the tips I found boast that it’s great for getting out hard water stains.
This is the result! I was absolutely amazed at how well it took that rust ring out of my sink! The sink even looks all bright and shiny. I’m one happy girl right now and I just want to take my bottle of vinegar all over the house to see what else it can do!
I am seriously impressed with Heinz Cleaning Vinegar and wish someone would have told me about this chemical-free cleaning solution ages ago. There are so many benefits to using vinegar to clean. It helps the environment and it’s very budget friendly!
3 Tips for Cleaning with Vinegar:
1. Clean bathroom film and hard water stains.
Use undiluted vinegar in a spray bottle, or let soak at the bottom of tubs and sinks. Wipe clean to remove film and hard water.
2. Use as a multi-purpose cleaner.
Mix one part vinegar and 3 parts water in a spray bottle. Use as you would any other multi-purpose cleaner.
3. Clean and deodorize your dishwasher.
