Tetley Tea’s history goes back to 19th century England when two brothers decided to sell tea off the back of their pack horse. It actually didn’t come to America until the latter 1800s and did you know that Tetley was the actually innovator of the round tea bag AND the first tea company to have a drawstring teabag? The history of Tetley Tea is quite fascinating! They literally changed the way we have tea.
It’s early morning, the sun came up a few hours ago and I’ve been enjoying a cup of British Tea that was sent to me from Tetley Tea a few weeks ago. I love the smell of tea when the sun is up and it’s crisp and cool outside. Autumn feels like it is coming a little early this year, just like all the other seasons have, so it’s nice to have a hot steaming cup of British Blend in my hands.
Tetley Tea also sent me some really interesting information about the Olympic Top Medal Winners and their Tea Choices! I thought I would share them. It’s really interesting to read facts about tea in other countries since it is such a worldwide drink that has been around since the dawn of time.
United States:
The US had a solid showing in swimming and the women’s gymnastics team was able to keep their cool to reclaim the top title. As it happens, in the US, 85% of tea is consumed over ice – which is quite different from the rest of the world. So tea- hot and iced is still a popular beverage throughout the country.
China:
With top honors in sports like swimming and diving, China was a dominant force this Summer. Tea happens to be one of the most important parts of any meal or social gathering in China and is had with almost every meal.
Russia:
Russia not only came with top honors on the mat with gymnastics but also dominated on the Track & Field events. Russia was part of the most dramatic battle against the American gymnast for first place. These athletes showed tremendous performance and are now running for third place with the most winning medals. Tea is a traditional beverage in Russia and it is consumed by more than 90% of Russian citizens and is a very important part of hospitality and hosting guests.
It’s pretty fascinating how 85% of Americans like their tea on ice, which is different from the rest of the world. We always stand out don’t we! Although I can’t argue with that because my husband is a big iced tea drinker. I make tea all day long in this house! Tetley Tea also makes an Iced Tea Blend that’s been made in Georgia for over 50 years!
I prefer my tea hot, with a spoon full of honey, swirling and steaming by mid morning. The smell of hot tea brings the memories of cool weather, the wind and leaves of Autumn, the first days of school and a bit of relaxation. It’s a very sophisticated drink, something we share with the world around us; whether you drink it hot or cold and with or without sugar.
I love this British Blend by Tetley Tea. I personally like it quite strong, so it steeps for quite awhile. It’s very full bodied and being in the round tea bag, it has over 25% more tea than your standard ones. They also offer a Classic Blend (the more amber colored black tea) and a Pure Green (your sweeter, more mellow flavor) and I just saw them at the grocery store, so you wouldn’t have any trouble finding them! Also, Tetley Tea is a member of the Ethical Tea Partnership, companies that come together to ensure a sustainable future and livelihood for millions of people.
It’s Sunday, the day we all decide to get our shopping lists together and go out into the madness of the afternoon to fill our homes with necessary things for the week. Don’t forget to check out the tea aisle, you can’t miss Tetley with their beautiful packaging! Enjoy a little moment for yourself, breath in the herbal concoction that embodies the morning and relax. You deserve it.
