There is nothing quite like having a nice glass of wine once the house is put to sleep. The rooms become silent, echoing only the chorus of nocturnal insects in a blissful white noise and if you are lucky the house isn’t too much of a mess and your partner doesn’t seem to bug you too much.
I love wine. The smell, the light lingering sweetness that intermixes with a quiet ambiance. There is something beautifully engaging about it; being both conversational and soothing. My only problem is that I never really have a lot of time to enjoy it and purchasing a bottle when I’m the only person drinking from it, seems to be an expenditure.
I was given the opportunity to try something new, The Tasting Room, a store that not only offered full size bottles but Samplers and Wines by the Glass in beautiful packaging for people like me who tend to have a little here or there. The Tasting Room partners with top wineries to re-bottle high quality wines into smaller versions, so you can try it and see which one you like. The Wines by the Glass are the perfect single serving size which offers the ability to discover new wines affordablly.
I was given the opportunity to try A Taste Adventure: Food-Friendly Wines. The Sampler included:
-
2011 Lake Chalice Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc
-
2008 Urraca Mendoza Chardonnay
-
2009 Lucas & Lewellen Santa Barbara County Chenin Blanc
-
2010 Il Cuore “The Heart” Mendocino County Barbera
-
2009 Stickybeak California Syrah
-
2009 Penley Estate “Condor” Coonawarra Red Blend
Made in a traditional style, this wine has a slight touch of residual sugar to accentuate the rare tropical fruit flavors of lychee, mangosteen and pineapple. The wine is exotic when young and will develop familiar aromas of honey, caramel and pear. Upon entry, the wine is round and creamy but it has a fine edge on the mid-palate and finish.
Each of the wine’s pair well with food and I’ve actually used a few while cooking some very nice steaks for my husband and I. While perusing wines in the Tasting Room, you can see which ones go best with certain types of dinners. This helps if you are getting ready for a get-together with friends and/or having a holiday meal. You can purchase a sampler that best fits your meal and then see which one(s) you’d like to actually purchase.
The wines in the full bottles aren’t even that expensive! My most favorite wine, the Chenin Blanc is actually only $19.95 for the whole bottle! The smooth sweet savor of the wine is priceless though and I’ve actually put this on my list for our Thanksgiving Dinner.
You also have the opportunity to share which ones you like, want, tried or recommend to your friends via Facebook. Who knows, maybe someone will see your recommendation and decide to purchase a bottle for your next get together! I’m not sure if it is in every sampler, but in the one I received they had a Promo Code where I could get my two favorite wines for $25, that is an impressive deal considering they are already inexpensive.
There are various different samplers and Wine by the Glass, which is different. Wine by the Glass comes in Singles or 4pks whereas the Samplers are smaller versions packed together to give you various choices. In a great example, you could receive the Sampler and pick out which ones you like best and if it is just for you then purchase a 4pk of Wine by the Glass or if you are having guests, a full bottle. The Tasting Room offers you the convenience of choosing what is best for you and that is what makes them remarkable.
