In my family we are pretty serious about college football. My circle of friends involves hardcore college football fans. We don’t all cheer for the same school but that is alright….it just adds to the healthy competition. We are serious University of Florida football fans (Go Gators). We went to school there so it makes us feel connected and a little nostalgic every Saturday morning during college football season.
Back in our college days most of us would find it hard to wake up at noon for a 12:30 game. Tailgating was more roll out of bed and then head on over to the fraternity house for less than edible burgers and even worse tasting beer.
Since graduating several years ago tailgating has taken on a whole new meaning. When we were fortunate enough to get tickets we would drive to Gainesville, find good parking spots around 9am and then sit around all day with friends and family and talk football.
Having kids does change that up. Now it involves a lot more planning but it can still be done! We still enjoy getting out there and enjoying tailgating….even when toddlers are present.
.
I did carry my youngest in a boba carrier which meant walking to the game was a breeze. In my backpack of toddler survival gear it included toddler snacks and sippy cups. Most stadiums don’t allow outside food and drink but with toddlers in tow I find most look the other way with small snacks. I also forgoed my normal cloth diapers and brought disposables and lots of wipes which double for use with sticky fingers.
The most important tip here in The Swamp is to stay hydrated!!! It gets soooo hot. I have nearly fainted to the point of falling onto the ground during 2 games in my lifetime. Drink up! It is extremely hot and humid here in Florida. Skip the water fountains since the water from them tastes horrid and buy some bottled water or beter yet Gatorade…which in case you didn’t know was invented here at UF.?
Do you have a favorite sports team? Are you able to make it to any games? Do you bring the kids with you?
