My family absolutely loves Wisconsin Dells. It’s our favorite place to go and we try to visit at least once a year.
Years ago when the kids were just tiny little tots, The Man and I went on a 3 day vacation there, just the two of us. It was wonderful and so much fun. One of the things we did that we’ve always wanted to do again is take a tour on the Original Wisconsin Ducks. It was the most beautiful tour and we wanted our kids to be able to experience it. Well last year Big Bro went with his class on a field trip. He thought it was awesome and I was excited he was able to go. So this year, I really wanted to take Lil Man. Lucky for him, we did!
“Climb aboard an Original Wisconsin Duck for a spring adventure. It’s a great way to see the emerging canopy of greenery along our exclusive wilderness trails. You?ll breathe in the fresh spring air and splash down into the Wisconsin River for a scenic cruise to see the sandstone bluffs. A second splashdown takes you into Lake Delton. It’s a wonderful adventure on land and water for your Spring Break getaway!”
The Original Wisconsin Ducks is a tour of the Dells by land and by water. But it’s so much more than that, in that the tour guide teaches and shows you rich Wisconsin history. History that is far from basic, ancient history, before and during the times that Indians owned the land that we call home. I was so excited for my family and a few of our friends to experience this journey together.

Along the journey through Wisconsin Dells on the Original Wisconsin Ducks, you will see this beautiful sandstone. It is native to Wisconsin Dells and only two other places in the entire world!
Baby Grand Piano |
There are a lot of Indian legends that your driver will share with you along the way, including the legend of Pulpit Rock and the Baby Grand Piano. See the rock formation above, it looks like a Baby Grand Piano lying on it’s side.
Hawk’s Bill |
Your driver will also point out Hawk’s Bill, a famous rock formation that was an ancient signal point of the Ho-Chunk tribe. The two landmarks I mentioned above are just a sampling of the Wisconsin history your tour guide will share wit you along the way!
One of the wonderful things about the Original Wisconsin Ducks tour is that the entire tour is a journey through nature. You will see at least 27 varieties of ferns, beautiful forests, rushing waters and possibly wild animals! We saw a few White Tailed Deer along our journey, which you can see a glimpse of them in the photo above.
At the end of your journey, your guide will point out the Duck Graveyard, where they store the irreparable ducks that have long passed their days of transporting adventures.
Now that you’ve seen a glimpse into the tour, let me really tell you about the Original Wisconsin Ducks. Ducks, better known as DUKW were originally built for war. Now we get to enjoy them in this wonderful journey!
The Original Wisconsin Duck tour is a family friendly tour that people of all ages will enjoy. Your driver will show you gorgeous sites and share great legends from long before your time. He will tell joke, some good and some bad; but he will try his best to keep you entertained. You will be amazed by all that you see and hear. At the end of your tour, he will share a book that tells in depth stories about everything that you saw along the way during your tour. There will also be postcards and coupons inside. He’ll let you know that they’re for sale, for a very reasonable price and all proceeds will go to his schooling.
Let me tell you, this book is worth every penny! I read through the entire book and learned so many things about Wisconsin’s history. My kids read it after me and they loved it. The postcards were mailed to family and friends. If you take away from this tour any one souvenir, I encourage you to take this.book “Old Trails and Duck Tales”.
