I have always had a soft spot for Helzberg Diamonds. In college my husband and I took a marketing seminar class together and one day a representative from Helzberg Diamonds came in to talk about marketing and the I Am Loved slogan. The entire class left with an I Am Loved button, which I still have.
To help inspire you to write your love story I will share with you mine. This is the very first time I have have written it down. It is not book or movie worthy but it is all mine. It is a beginning of a major chapter of my life and I treasure it.
A little over 10 years ago I was a college sophmore and I decided to go to a fraternity party with a bunch of my sorority sisters. I was extremely shy and reserved so this was a big deal to me. At one point I found myself chatting with a freshman guy all by myself. We really hit it off. We talked about video games and how we were both kind of non-partiers so to speak. At the end of the night he even asked for my phone number. I was so excited. A boy actually asked ME for my phone number. You must remember this was many years before Facebook. We went on a few dates and we got along great. Sadly we never really had that spark…that butterflies in the stomach feeling. I was extremely sad and dissapointed that things were not looking up.
One night I met one of his roommates, Matt. I immediately disliked him and thought he was a jerk and kind of full of himself. Matt was loud and obnoxious. Since he was the first guy’s roommate I saw Matt several times. Then one night we were all hanging out in the apartment and Matt showed his softer side and shared his feelings. He said that dating had not been going well for him lately. He then said and I quote “I am just a nice guy looking for a nice girl.” My immediate reaction is I am a nice girl!
Not long after that night Matt contacted me and invited me to a fraternity toga party and I agreed. Yes…toga party…straight up Animal house style complete with decorations and costumes. We had a blast. We got along great and we immediately started dating. I could not believe it. I was a video gamer homebody that stayed home to read books for fun. Matt was an outgoing jock that wanted to go out and be social all the time. How could I meet someone so opposite of everything I had looked for in a guy? His glowing qualitites were his height at 6’9″ and the fact that he drove a truck. I was young and at the time I was living a carefree college lifestyle and those were qualitites I liked.

One night after about 3 months as a couple we were watching TV on the couch. We decided to get up and do something else. He got up first and reached down to help me off the sofa. He ever so softly touched my arm midway between my elbow and wrist on the delicate side and and slide it upwards till he grabbed my hand to help me up. BAM it was like lightning! It was that exact second. That exact moment in time that I knew he was the “the one.” I looked into his eyes and it was like my future life was flashing before my eyes….marriage, babies, house, mini van, soccer practices. This all happened in a flash and he had NO IDEA.
It would be years later till he knew I was the one. We did get engaged on the beach, movie style, complete with sunset and dolphins swimming by. We got married July 2nd in front of family and friends. We have now been married 7 years and we have 2 beautiful daughters. All it took was getting out of my comfort zone and going out one faithful night with sorority sisters and it started me on my path to finding my one and only…my Matthew.
