Giving back to our community is important to my family. We have big hearts, and we enjoy doing what we can to help others. That’s why I am always excited to work on Champions for Kids missions through Social Fabric.
The latest mission is a “Game Day Challenge” to collect and give sports equipment to a charity in our community. My kids aren’t on any sports teams at the moment, so instead we headed out to Walmart in search of sports/outdoor products to purchase and donate.
We also incorporated Odwalla into our mission because it’s important to keep your body nourished during activity. Through the #OdwallaCFK mission, my family and I went on a mission to purchase Odwalla juices and sports equipment to donate to our local food pantry. They provide food, personal care products and transportation to families and the elderly in need. I am excited to share my finds there because I know that some of the children of the families that go there don’t have a whole lot. I thought it would be a nice treat for the kids to get some outdoor sports equipment and toys!
As soon as I got to Walmart, my first mission was to find the Odwalla juice. I had looked the last two times I was there, but was unable to find them. Thanks to our wonderful campaign leader Brandi, I was pointed in the right direction to the refrigerated juice section. I don’t know why I didn’t think to look there!
Once I found them, I was excited to find three different varieties; Blueberry, Original and Mango Tango. I grabbed one of each.
I found a large area of outdoor play products in the toy department and started loading up my cart. There was quite a bit to choose from and with reasonable prices, I was able to get more bang for my buck! Thrifty as I am, this section was perfect!
I grabbed a few jump ropes, a ball, Frisbee and a few other things.
I found two rows of the Ultra Catch toys, which are a favorite for our family. If you’ve never played this, I highly suggest it because it is a lot of fun!
Big Bro went with us on this shopping trip and I really enjoyed having him help me pick out the right things for us to donate. What better opinion than that of a kid! He was really excited to shop for these toys/sports products for other kids. That just melted my heart because I know that I’m doing my part as a parent to teach him compassion and giving! You can see our entire path to purchase on Google +.
Once we got home and organized our finds, Gunner had to sniff around too and check out what we got!
Overall, I think my family benefited from this experience just as much as the children that will receive the toys will benefit. Doing something nice for someone else always seems to leave us with a great feeling of joy. After our shopping trip, Big Bro and I talked about saving up our change and buying some more of the inexpensive items such as jump ropes, Frisbees and balls to donate again. So I think a lesson was definitely learned here! Maybe we can even get our friends and family involved!
