The Chipmunks, Chipettes and their caretaker Dave Sevelle (Jason Lee; ?My Name is Earl?) embark on a trip of a lifetime aboard the Carnival Dream cruise ship. Seeking fun and excitement, the Chipmunks turn the luxury cruise liner into their own personal playground. But the ultimate vacation quickly becomes a disaster when the Chipmunks, Dave and Carnival cruise pelican mascot, who turns out to be the chipmunks? old manager, Ian Hawke (David Cross; Megamind), accidentally fall overboard and find themselves Chipwrecked on a remote island. Stuck in an unfamiliar territory, the six furry castaways are separated from Dave and must figure out a way to survive on their own for the first time in their lives.
Written and produced by husband and wife duo Ross Bagdasarian, Jr. and Janice Karman, ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS: CHIPWRECKED features a star-studded voice cast with Justin Long (Dodgeball) as Alvin, Mathew Gray Gubler (?Criminal Minds?) as Simon, Jesse McCartney (Horton Hears a Who!) as Theodore, Christina Applegate (?Up All Night) as Brittany, Anna Faris (What’s Your Number?) as Jeanette, and Amy Poehler (?Parks and Recreation?) as Eleanor.
Alvin and the Chipmunks began as an American animated music group in 1958 that was developed by Ross Bagdasarian, Sr. who created a one-of-a-kind singing trio consisting of three animated chipmunks, Alvin, Simon and Theodore. I grew up as a kid in the 80’s so we were quite limited when it came to cartoons. There weren’t nearly as many as there are today, that’s for sure! I remember Alvin and the Chipmunks being one of my favorite cartoons growing up. After all of these years, I have never got that theme song out of my head. Or better yet, Dave yelling “Aallllviiin!”
My kids have grown to love Alvin and the Chipmunks thanks to cable television over the years and their movies. I’m glad that they’re able to share this beloved cartoon! I have to say, we were quite excited when we found out Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked was coming out and even more excited when we had the chance to review a copy!

I was busy working on my blog late in the evening the day that it arrived, so the kids took it to their room near bedtime to watch it. I asked them how it was the next morning and they said it was “Awesome” and started talking about funny parts in it. I had to shut them up quickly thought before they ruined it for me since I really wanted to watch it too!
A couple of evenings ago, I finally had the time to watch it. Lil man and I curled up in my bed, stuck it in the DVD player and were all ready for some cuddle/movie time. Until the DVD player wouldn’t work… We spent the next 15 minutes trying to get it to read the disk until I finally said “screw it”! We grabbed the laptop, popped it in and watched on the tiny little 13 inch screen!
Rest assured, screen size does not matter with Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked though. This movie is absolutely hilarious in classic Alvin and the Chipmunks fashion. Of course Alvin got into some trouble {quite often} and that’s how the ended up “chipwrecked”. Quite hilarious as it is, once they were castaways, Alvin and Simon kind of switched personalities and Alvin showed a responsible “grown up” side. That was quite nice to see!
All in all, Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked was a wonderful, super funny and just all around great movie. It’s a movie that the entire family will enjoy, young and old alike. It’s definitely a great one to stop and pick up for “Family Movie Night”!
