They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Unfortunately, it is also the meal most people skip!
I know I am guilty of skipping breakfast at least 3-4 times a week. I am a busy working Mom, and every day it is a struggle to get out the door and to work on time. Here is my typical morning:
- 6:35 Alarm goes off.
- 6:40 Alarm goes off. Oh wait, that isn’t an alarm. That is my 3 year old screaming in my ear that she wants yogurt. I’ll let her father take care of that.
- 6:45 Alarm goes off again. I drag myself out of bed.
- 6:50 I make my coffee (priorities!). I make Simone’s lunch for daycare. I make my lunch for work. I feed the cats, I feed the dog. Sometime I find something to throw in the crock pot for dinner
- 7:10 I plop Simone on my bed with the Ipad while I take a shower. I pretend I am in some warm, tropical place before waking up to the reality of a cold VA bathroom.
- 7:25 I scramble to find something to wear. I do my makeup, dry my bangs and braid my hair (who has time to blow-dry these days??), and brush my teeth.
- 7:40 I try to convince Simone that she does, in fact, want to get dressed. Usually involves chasing of some form. More often than not, she wears her Pj’s to the baby sitter’s. At least she has clothes on, right??
- 7:45 I pack her diaper bag and my work bag, and we are off.
Notice what I didn’t get to? Yep,the most important meal of the day. If I do happen to grab breakfast, it is usually a sugary breakfast snack – not exactly a healthy choice. Did you know there is a healthy breakfast alternative for those on the go days?

The whole family had the opportunity to try out all 3 flavors (apple cinnamon, blueberry, and golden oat) and was pleasantly surprised. In all honesty, I was expecting dry and tasteless. In my experience, healthy doesn’t typically mean yummy. But these are good! I really liked the Apple Cinnamon flavor. Even Simone liked them! My husband said he would like them with a glass of juice and a banana. According to the website,
To enjoy belVita as part of a balanced breakfast, we recommend pairing it with fruit and low-fat dairy, like: Fresh strawberries and creamy non-fat Greek yogurt, crunchy apple slices topped with low-fat cheese, or a Banana and a non-fat latte for mornings on the go.
