I just learned about Champions for Kids last December when I was working on the Disney Champions for Kids Stocking Donation. I felt great working on that campaign and even better knowing that I was helping a child in need. It got me feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. That feeling is coming back to me as I’m working on this next project.
The Champions for Kids mission is to mobilize people to improve the lives of children in their communities. It worked on me and through me, I hope that it will work for you too! I hope that one day, there will be no child in need. If we all do one small little thing, it is possible. If funds are not available for you to help, time can be just as good to help a child!
Today, I am giving back to my community once again. I am working on the Energizer Light Up A Life Champions for Kids project. I will be heading out to Walmart to buy items for a “Winter Survival Kit” for a child in need in my community. I will be taking the kit that I put together to our local food pantry, so that they can give it to a child who needs it. Our food panty helps so many people and I think they are the first place that people go when they’re in need. They were also very appreciative of the last gift that I donated {food and personal items}, so I just want to keep giving back!
Please take a moment to click on the image above to be taken to the project card. There are some scary statistics on there that you might not be aware of. For instance, did you know that over 9 million children suffer from non-fatal injuries each year? Accidents are the leading cause of death for children and dangerous weather conditions cause hundreds of deaths each year.
Now I know that we may not be able to prevent accidents, but we can do our part to try to help during poor weather conditions. The Center of Disease Control recommends keeping a survival kit ready in case of severe weather or emergencies. This kit should contain items such as food, water, flashlights, batteries, medications, first aid kit, sanitation/personal hygiene items, copies of personal documents and other necessities.
These are great ideas of items to take to your local food pantry to donate. Families that can’t afford enough food, surely cannot afford many of these items as well. I encourage you to do just a little act to share the love. Any donation helps, large or small!
